Student visas of several international students across major U.S. universities, including Harvard, Tufts, and Stanford, are being quietly revoked, often without prior notice. The Associated Press and Los Angeles Times report dozens of cases, particularly in California, where students at UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and UC San Diego discovered their visa status had changed only after checking federal immigration databases. Stanford confirmed six cases, while others were reported at Dartmouth, Arizona State University, and more.

High-profile cases include Rumeysa Ozturk, a Turkish PhD student at Tufts, and Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia graduate, both detained after participating in pro-Palestinian activism. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed 300 student visa revocations due to alleged “anti-national” content and campus activism. A new AI tool, "Catch and Revoke," is reportedly identifying students linked to support for Hamas or other designated terrorist groups. Immigration experts are scrambling to understand the full scope of this crackdown.
