As Myanmar's earthquake death toll surpasses 3,000, survivors camping in the open now face another crisis—extreme heat and impending heavy rain, raising fears of disease outbreaks. The 7.7-magnitude quake, one of the country’s strongest in a century, devastated regions like Mandalay, Sagaing, and Naypyitaw, toppling buildings and leaving thousands without shelter, food, or water.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a rising risk of cholera, malaria, and dengue due to damaged healthcare facilities and poor sanitation. WHO has prepared $1 million in relief supplies, including body bags. Temperatures of 38°C (100°F) have forced many to stay outdoors, while hospitals set up makeshift camps.
Unseasonal rain forecasted from April 7-11 threatens to worsen conditions, complicating relief efforts. Despite the crisis, Myanmar’s junta chief Min Aung Hlaing is leaving the country for a regional summit in Bangkok, sparking criticism amid ongoing devastation.
