Jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions to human rights and democracy. The Pakistan World Alliance (PWA), an advocacy group founded in December, announced the nomination in collaboration with Norway’s Partiet Sentrum political party.

The group stated on X (formerly Twitter), “We are pleased to announce that, in alliance with someone eligible to nominate, we have nominated Imran Khan for the Nobel Peace Prize.” This marks Khan’s second nomination—his first was in 2019 for promoting peace in South Asia.

Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been imprisoned since August 2023 and was sentenced in January to 14 years for alleged corruption. Three previous convictions were overturned. Removed from office via a no-confidence vote in April 2022, Khan denies all charges, calling them politically motivated.
